On April 8, PIDC welcomed its participants with Voice Box: The Grand Opening Cocktails at the historic UP Theater. On April 10, the participants enjoyed a night of music and dancing at the Amber Ultralounge, located inside Manila’s hottest party hub, The Fort.

More than just winning, PIDC 2010 gave debaters a venue to discuss relevant issues and stances. With the theme “Make Your Voice Count,” the tournament opened with the first ever “Voice Box: Debate with your National Candidate,” where debaters asked invited senatoriables questions on a wide range of topics such as public education, foreign trade policy, and even alternative energy sources.

1 Campaign to “Make Your Voice Count”

With the entire Philippine debate community, PIDC made debate more relevant by launching the “Make Your Voice Count” campaign for greater awareness and participation for the upcoming Philippine national elections. Central to the campaign is the “VoiceBox” project which started out as an online discussion board on pressing national issues such as reproductive health and the Philippine presidency. In “Debate with your National Candidate” the participants, which are composed of eligible voters, were given the chance to scrutinize several senatorial candidates on April 8 at the new GT Toyota Auditorium in UP Diliman.

Through the hard work of the Board of Directors (Dominic Augustine B. Briguera, Tournament Director; Anna Elvira Arcellana, Deputy Tournament Director; Angelo Paolo Kalaw, Communications Director; Samantha Ann Tirthdas and John Glenn Agbayani, Socials Directors; Franz Jonathan dela Fuente, Ricardo Louis Flores and Jacques Jimeno, Logistics and Operations Directors; Ma.Jiandra Bianca Deslate and Ana Cristina Hipolito, Promotions Directors; Genica Therese Endaluz and Ma.Clarisse Osteria, Marketing Directors; Trixia Anne Tanedo, Finance Director) together with the members and alumni of UPDS, PIDC was able to deliver another world-class, excellent and efficient tournament in the service of the Philippine debate community and the broader Philippine society.
